A little overdue, but see what I read about my spiritual and charismatic quest in 2022.
Here's what I've read in the order I read it. I also include some thoughts and links to book reviews I've written.
2022 Reading:
Title | Notes |
The Three Battlegrounds: An In-Depth View of the Three Arenas of Spiritual Warfare: The Mind, the Church and the Heavenly Places | By Francis Frangipane Years ago, this book was referred to me and my wife because of some spiritual "things" we were dealing with. My wife read it. I did not. It was "too weird" for me and I wasn't at a stage in my personal spiritual development where it would have meant much, anyway. Then in 2021, my family was going through some challenging times and a good friend of mine reminded me of a quote from Steve Backlund: "Any area of your life that doesn't glisten with hope is under the influence of a lie and that area is a stronghold of the devil in your life." However, it turns out that quote isn't a Backlund original, but rather it is from a chapter of this book. The 3 battlefields, just so you know, are in your mind, within the church, and of course, in the heavens. I recommend this. |
A Matter of Time: The Era of the Holy Spirit | By Melissa McBroom About the time I discovered and began the exploration of my Christian mystical journey, a good friend, Melissa McBroom also delved into her own depths as a mystic. This is her story and her encounters with God as a mystic. Enjoy! |
Spiritual Intelligence: The Art of Thinking Like God | By Kris Vallotton We all have heard about IQ or intelligence quotient. Some have heard of EQ or emotional intelligence. Few have heard about SQ or spiritual intelligence. This book delves into our spiritual intelligence because as the New Testament frequently reminds us - as believers we have the mind of Christ. This book helps the reader to understand the "mind of Christ" and what it looks like to think like God. |
The Big Book of Christian Mysticism: The Essential Guide to Contemplative Spirituality | By Carl McColman This was recommended as a good introductory reading on the topic of Christian Mysticism. I found this to be a great study into "classic" mysticism - of those who came before and how they experienced and obeyed God. I would recommend it to anyone who is mystic-curious or is beginning the journey into Christian Mysticism. |
